Healing from #Abuse (The Answer Is Closer Than You Know!)

We all know that child sexual abuse is a horrible thing but I had never really met anyone that had experienced it….well, they had never told me about it!  Because of this I never really examined the effects that something so traumatic and horrific would have on a victim of sexual abuse.  That was until I met Angela Williams and Tom Scales of VOICE TODAY.  Sure, I assumed that it would have some effects but I always looked at it like, “that’s something that happened in your life that you will one day get over”.  Now, I realize that it’s possible that you never fully “get over it”.  However, I do believe that you are able to heal from it even if you never fully “get over it”.

It’s kind of like breaking your leg.  If you have ever broken a leg, you know that it takes some healing for you leg to fully restore, and sometimes you have to go for regular checkups to evaluate your progression.  Once that leg heals, you still remember that you broke it before ,and you may even remember the pain.  Moreover, you might even have a limp, after it healed.
I look at child sexual abuse the same.  You may walk with a limp but having a limp is better than not walking at all.
I want to dedicate this blog entry to all survivors of abuse, whether child abuse, child sexual abuse, or domestic abuse.  I would advise that you seek comfort in a friend, a family member, a therapist, or an organization to help you heal from this.  The biggest step is the first one; SPEAK OUT AND BREAK THE SILENCE!
I believe that from there you will slowly see those scars start to heal!
If you have ever been abused and you feel that you need someone to talk to and can’t find that person, I strongly suggest that you give VOICE TODAY a call…….

When We Speak TV encourages you to be blessed, be happy, and BE HEALED!

The Art of Barbering

Mrs. Rivers is passionate about customer service. She has owned and managed several barbershops in Gwinnett County, suburb of Atlanta, GA. The school, Phil’s Barber and Style School, was recently opened in 2008. And from what I can see it is definitely the place to get a haircut or to be trained! I wish Phil’s Barber and Style School much success and I thank them for training students to be the “….best barber in the State of Georgia”.

Interview with Singer Winston Warrior (album "Lifeology 101")

Interview with singer Winston Warrior

I recently had the opportunity to sit down with singer Winston Warrior, to talk about his past, current, and future career goals.  While speaking to him, I was very inspired.  Winston talks about his past struggles in the music industry and how he originally gave up on the music.  But that didn't stop him!  (Check out the videos below.)

The interview with Winston was very inspiring to me because it signified my life!  I can totally relate to the things that he's experienced.  Most of all, it inspired me to "Keep Moving".  And I hope that it inspires you to keep working hard at what you do and never give up on your dream!  Some people don't believe that dreams can come true.....sometimes your dream becomes bigger than you ever imagined!

Peachtree Road Race 2011

On Independence Day you can normally find all types of things to do, whether it’s a parade, a cookout, or just some well needed rest. An Independence Day tradition in Atlanta, Georgia, is the AJC Peachtree Road Race. Organized by the Atlanta Track Club, the AJC Peachtree Road Race attracts runners of all ages, color, and nationalities from all over the world. Since I had never attended this event in the three years I’ve lived in Atlanta, I decided to check it out. I had no plans on running (maybe next time) but I definitely wanted to see what it was all about.

Began in 1970, the Peachtree Road Race is 10k and starts near Lenox Square Mall and ends at Piedmont Park. When the race first began, in 1970, it had 110 runners. Most recently, (July 4, 2011), the race had over 60,000 runners. Thus far this is the most ever! (I was delighted to be one of the spectators).

Although, I didn’t run in the race, this will definitely be a yearly tradition for me also, whether I run or volunteer! See you next year!
MEN'S WINNER: Sammy Kitwara of Kenya
WOMEN'S WINNER: Werknesh Kidane of Ethiopia

Love & Relationships: Don't Lead Me On!

When I came up with the idea of When We Speak TV, my idea was not to only talk about music or to talk about a lot of celebrity gossip. My idea was to have a blog/ show that talks about a variety of topics; Topics that are inspirational and inspiring to people of all walks of life.

Staying true to myself and my love for God, I chose my motto “Death and LIFE are in the power of the tongue” from the bible. However, the blog / show is not a religious show. I want to appeal to a variety of audiences , regardless of race, sexuality, or religion, because we are all similar in one way….We are all HUMAN and that’s what I want to focus on.

Occasionally, on the weekend, I like to get away from the house and clear my head. Usually it’s with my partner or some friends. One day, Nikki and I were on our way to a “weekend getaway”, when she asked me a very interesting question. She wanted to know why males (in particular) continue “come on” to someone, even if the other person says that they aren’t interested. Needless to say, we talk a long time about this conversation and I had much to say. Later that day, as she and I were eating, I decided that it would be a great topic for a quick video. So check out the video below, and share your comments.
