My Fault by Leaf Newman

Some of you really faithful When We Speak TV supporters may remember that our very first interview was with Leaf Newman, formerly of BET singing competition, Welcome To Dreamland.  Do you remember that show?  Basically, the show paired up singers into two teams and each team had a music producer (Drumma Boy and Jazze Pha).  From there the best girl on each team would compete to become the Queen of Dreamland.....
....Leaf was on Drumma Boy's team and won the competition in the end.

FAST FORWARD
After much anticipation, Leaf has finally released her Flowers and Grass independently and When We Speak TV was in the building for the album release, held in a beautiful loft in Atlanta.  The event was so nice and the Leaf's fashion totally represented the Leaf Newman that we know and love.

A wonderfully eclectic blend of jazz, rock, pop and r&b floating on honey vocals and life healing lyrics. With contributions from Andrew DeBarge (El DeBarge’s Nephew), Ryan Waters (Sade’s lead guitarist) and versatile producer Jabari Thomas Taylor, “Flowers and Grass,” is MUSIC YOU CAN BREATHE

Here's just a snippet of Leaf's song, My Fault, off the album.  Be sure to purchase online at:

Meet Ziggy (Event Director of Jazz In The Alley)- Norcross, Georgia

Have you subscribed to the NEW When We Speak TV YouTube channel?
If not, please go and do it now!
We plan to have lots of great stuff there, from music, to interviews, to personal messages, and much more!!!

I know you didn't come here for that but I really need everyone's support!  So thank you in advance for subscribing.....ok...I'll make it easy for you....just click the link below!
OK....back to the reason for the blog....

Atlanta is saturated with festivals...fall festivals, brunch festivals, jazz festivals, taco festivals, music festivals, chicken wing festivals....I think I should come up with a "festival festival"!  I'm not complaining because all these festivals and events make it very easy to find something to do on the weekend!  Sometimes on the weekend, I jump in my car and just ride around Atlanta and the surrounding cities to see what is going on....usually if you drive to the downtown areas you will find something going on.  About a year ago, I was riding in downtown Norcross, and I stumbled upon a jazz event called Jazz In The Alley.  I hadn't heard much about it but it seemed to be  really nice event so I parked my car and went to check it out.

The event was really nice because it was located behind the restaurant area of downtown Norcross restaurants and you could listen to live jazz music while you dined.  There were some people eating the restaurant patios and others were sitting in lawn chairs enjoying the music.
Whenever there is music I'm there! Especially live music, so of course, I stopped to check it out noticing that the local jazz station, WCLK, also was involved.

Well....after the event was over, I really didn't get a chance to go back to check it out but I was always thinking...."that was really nice".  And then, this year I was online and noticed a flyer with Tony Hightower on it.  If you don't know, Tony Hightower, has been a guest on my show, When We Speak

When I saw the flyer, I immediately noticed that it was in Norcross, GA, and called Jazz In the Alley.....then it hit me!  That's the same event that you stumbled upon a year ago!  So of course I made it my business to go and see Tony Hightower perform, and I'm glad I did because in the process I got a chance to meet Ziggy, the Event Director and visionary behind Jazz In The Alley
In fact, I admired her passion, work ethic, and over all spirit, that I wanted to share her with you!!!!!

MEET ZIGGY!!!!!

"Tennessee...Take Me To Another Place...": An Interview with Speech of Arrested Development

"Tennessee...Take Me To Another Place...": An Interview with Speech of Arrested Development

I was born and raised in the rural West Tennessee town of Whiteville.  I  spent many of my younger years dreaming about the day that I would leave that little town, move to Atlanta, and have a "great life".  And when the song Tennessee from Arrested Development came out, it became my them song....."Take me to another place, take me to another land...." .  When that song came on, it would give me inspiration to just keep holding on because one day, I would leave that town.....Little did I know that the song wasn't really about what I thought.

Well, it took me many years before I actually moved to Atlanta....I went into the military for 5 years and lived in Texas, for about 5 years thereafter.  Finally in 2008. I moved to Atlanta.  After being in the metro Atlanta area for 8 years, surprisingly, I often miss the memories that I had in my little town of Whiteville.  Today, I realize that I spent most of my years dreaming of getting away, that I didn't take time to appreciate the moment.

I SAID THAT.....TO LEAD YOU TO THIS
After years of jamming to Tennessee and desiring to leave Tennessee, I got a chance to sit down with the writer of the song, Todd "Speech" Thomas, on When We Speak.  We got a chance to talk about so much stuff like old music, new music, politics, and even his music school (The Victory Spot).

Be sure to check out the interview, I believe that it will definitely be a blessing and encouragement to your life.

AND GUESS WHAT?  WE JUST MADE WHEN WE SPEAK HISTORY!  THIS IS THE FIRST GRAMMY AWARD WINNING ARTIST TO JOIN ME ON THE SHOW!!!  WE'VE HAD NOMINATED ARTISTS BUT NEVER AN ARTIST THAT HOLDS THE AWARD.....PRAY WITH ME THAT THERE ARE EVEN MORE TO COME!
