Speaking With Tortured Soul

Words can not begin to tell you how I felt when Tortured Soul agreed to speak with me on When We Speak...I was excited and nervous, all at the same time.  The night prior to our interview I could not sleep at all because the anxiety was just too much!
But I made it through and Tortured Soul was so welcoming.  If you are not familiar with Tortured Soul, here's a little information:

Members (LtoR):  Jordan Scannella
                            Ethan White
                            John Christian Urich

(From www.torturedsoulmusic.com)- Tortured Soul’s origins date back to 2001 while Urich was steering Cooly’s Hot Box, an acid jazz outfit also featuring under-the-radar indie soul vocalist Angela Johnson. After putting Cooly’s Hot Box on hiatus, Urich composed “Might Do Something Wrong,” which was quickly picked up by New York-based deep house label Central Park Recordings, and Tortured Soul was born. Thanks to the cool laidback mix provided by Osunlade, the song quickly became an underground staple at the iconic Club Shelter and helped jumpstart the development of a full-length disc generating more soulful house. With the 12-inch single in heavy rotation in the New York club circuit, Urich went into overtime to restructure the band’s line-up: The session players on “Might Do Something Wrong” were out; bassist Jason “JKriv” Kriveloff and slick, jazz-honed keyboardist Ethan White – formally Urich‘s bandmates in the rhythm section of NYC acid-jazz band Topaz – were in. Together, the new trio forged a new cool sound by blending the freewheeling New York house and classic disco beats with elements of hip-hop, salsa and Roy Ayers-styled jazz-fusion (Read more at www.torturedsoulmusic.com)

IDK Can Handle The Pressure!

In a world full of images of the glamorous life of music, sometimes it’s difficult dealing with the realities of the entertainment industry. For most indie artists, the "road to fame" is not as glamorous as it’s portrayed. Along with that can also come stress.
Watch as IDK shares with Jermaine Sain, how they cope with the stress of artistry.

On The Road with Sarah Peacock

Do you remember my interview with Kurt Scobie?  Well, I interviewed Kurt before his show in Duluth, GA, at The Red Clay Theatre …little did I know that I would also run into another voice that I would be mesmerized over.  After our interview, as I walked up the stairs I could hear a female voice coming from the theatre, It was Sarah Peacock.
Her sound check was so good that I immediately walked up to her to introduce myself.  Luckily for me, I also got a chance to watch her performance that night.  Then a month or two passed and I got a message from Sarah Peacock accepting to join me on When We Speak!

Sarah has a work ethic that I definitely admire, and her new album Albuquerque Sky is evidence of her determination and hard work.

When Winston Warrior Speaks....

I want to encourage each of you to support indie artists because they work very hard to provide you with great music…usually from their own bank accounts. There are numerous ways to support these artists. One way would be just to share their music when you see it on social media sites. If you have a blog, you could voluntarily write a review about their music. Lastly, if they are a guest on When We Speak, you should share their interview with us, rate it, and comment.
One thing I’ve learned through my research of blogging and social media is that a lot is based off comments, views, likes, etc. Did you know that even if you hit the “thumbs down” on a video, it’s better than not clicking anything at all? Sounds crazy right? Well, this is how the internet looks at it; if you clicked dislike, the video impacted you enough to leave your opinion about it.
Watch the video below as singer, Winston Warrior, also explains the importance of supporting indie music like himself….

Recently, I was read an article that talked about having a "success mentality".  I was going to write about the article but I decided to share it with you instead...BE ENCOURAGED!
